Position Summary 
Rue Insurance’s Select Commercial Inside Sales and Marketing Specialist is a Trusted Advisor (liaison)
between the client and insurance carrier
responsible for gathering and conveying information and securing and presenting insurance options to new business clients and/or to Rue client service teams. They are primarily responsible for
providing outstanding client service and advisory support to all new prospects and performing their work in an accurate and timely manner. The Select Commercial Inside Sales and Marketing Specialist’s main focus is to build and maintain client relationships to support the new business goals of their department. Quality of work must exemplify the best-in-class service standards established by Rue Insurance at all times. 

 

Key Responsibilities  

Prospecting 

  • Develop prospecting strategies to increase opportunities for new business. 
  • Generate new business-to-business sales for accounts generating less than 25K account size premium by proactively contacting prospects to sell insurance products and services through referrals and cold calling. 
  • Handle incoming prospect calls, walk ins and website leads for new business. 
  • Collect prospect information and perform research to determine the appropriate products and services to offer. 
  • Review customers current insurance program and recommend changes or improvements.
  • Support the Rue Be Ready model by proactively seeking to discover client operational or exposure-based risk improvement opportunities, making appropriate risk control or insurance coverage recommendations to address identified risks, and following through to resolution. 
  • Build and maintain client relationships and provide a consultative approach to new business account activity. 
  • Reach or exceed annual sales targets/goals. 

New Business Placement 

  • Effectively maintain strong knowledge for current insurance products and marketplace companies. 
  • Maintain positive working relationships with insurance company employees. 
  • Compile all pertinent underwriting information and prepare appropriate applications for submission to selected companies. 
  • Perform underwriting and rating functions for risks eligible for online rating and/or agency underwriting authority. 
  • Negotiate pricing, policy conditions and terms with insurance companies. 
  • Review all quotations and determine the best options for price and coverage. 
  • Prepare proposals including coverages, premium and recommendations. Provide options or other information as directed.
  • Present quotes to prospects and document client coverage elections. 
  • Provide binding instructions to appropriate companies and remit deposit premiums to companies and/or agency as required.  
  • Prepare binders, certificates, auto ID cards and other documents required at the inception of a new account. 
  • Follow all agency processes and procedures, including but not limited to, Epic Workflows, client documentation, paper and electronic records retention guidelines, transfer to Rue designate service team, etc. 

Other 

  • Provide rating and quoting support to commercial client service teams as directed including remarketing and account rounding as requested.
  • Be familiar with and follow Agency E&O guidelines 
  • Attend and actively participate in regular department and monthly company meetings 
  • Develop and maintain advanced exposure and coverage knowledge by proactively seeking formal and informal educational programs to enhance knowledge and skills, and/or to obtain additional professional designations. 
  • Participate in internal educational program(s) to further enhance knowledge and skills for self and team members. 
  • Complete all CE or other requirements to maintain a current property and casualty insurance agents license in NJ.
  • Perform all other duties or projects as assigned by management.  

Reports to: Director of Client Services – Commercial Lines 
Department: Commercial  
Work Schedule & Classification: Full-time, salaried non-exempt position  
Salary: $50,000 - $70,000 annually plus commission 

Required Qualifications 

  • Valid Property, Casualty, Life, and Health Insurance Licenses  
  • Demonstrated proficiency handling small commercial insurance accounts 
  • Energetic, motivated and dedicated team player  
  • Exceptional organizational, critical thinking, and analytical skills, with strong attention to detail and demonstrated ability to prioritize and operate strategically and effectively in a fast-paced environment 
  • Demonstrated ability to recognize client operational or exposure-based risks and identify improvement opportunities; and to make appropriate risk control or insurance coverage recommendations to address identified risks 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills 
  • Ability to create professional business correspondence and to create clear, detailed, meaningful descriptions and notes in the agency management system 
  • Professional appearance and demeanor, and positive attitude 
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office 
  • Experience with agency management software   

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Bachelor’s Degree 
  • ​​​​​​​2+ years B2B Sales experience  
  • 2+ years commercial account management / processing experience 
  • Proficiency with insurance company rating systems 
  • Experience with Applied Systems Epic
