About the Position  

Rue Insurance’s Account Managers are Trusted Advisor (liaison) between the client and insurance carrier to convey information, ensure understanding, and ensure work gets done in an accurate, timely manner. They are primarily responsible for providing outstanding client service and advisory support to all new and existing clients in a book of business. The Account Manager’s main focus is to build and maintain client relationships to support the new business and retention goals of their department. Quality of work must exemplify the best-in-class service standards established by Rue Insurance at all times. 

Hybrid schedule available after 90 days  

Reports to: Director of Client Service - Employee Benefits Department/Unit: Employee Benefits 

Work Schedule & Classification: Full-time, salaried (non-exempt) position 

Salary: $55,000 - $70,000 Annually

Key Responsibilities include but are not limited to:  

  • Client Management: Serve as the primary point of contact for assigned client accounts, addressing inquiries, resolving issues, and ensuring overall client satisfaction. 

  • Consultation: Analyze clients’ employee benefit needs and provide expert advice on suitable insurance products and services. 

  • Plan Administration: Oversee the implementation and administration of employee benefit plans, including health, dental, vision, life, disability, and retirement plans. 

  • Renewals: Coordinate and manage the renewal process for client benefit plans, including negotiation with carriers to secure favorable terms and conditions. 

  • Communication: Develop and deliver presentations and reports to clients on plan performance, market trends, and compliance updates. 

  • Compliance: Ensure all benefit plans comply with applicable laws and regulations, including ACA, ERISA, HIPAA, and COBRA. 

  • Problem Solving: Proactively identify and resolve any issues related to benefit plans, claims, or billing in a timely and efficient manner. 

  • Team Collaboration: Work closely with internal & external teams, including sales (producer), to provide a seamless client experience. Attend and actively participate in regular department and monthly company meetings. 

  • Training: Educate clients on benefit plan options, features, and enrollment processes through workshops, webinars, and individual consultations. 

  • Documentation: Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of client interactions, plan details, and contractual agreements. 

Specific Job Duties include but are not limited to: 

  • Manage the servicing responsibilities of a book of business, including policy renewals, enrollments, terminations, and assist with onboarding new clients 

  • Process client coverage renewals in a timely manner, from obtaining updated client operations and employee census data, to obtaining renewal quotations from insurers, analyzing and disclosing coverage changes, preparing renewal proposals for client presentation, and binding coverage to include: 
    Maintain employee census roster
    Obtain renewal from carrier
    Obtain / run proposals for comparative analysis of current plan(s) and market alternatives 
    Spreadsheet renewal illustration for comparative analysis 
    Negotiate with carriers for competitive rating when necessary 
    Prepare Open Enrollment Materials, including SBC / Plan Summaries, Rate Grids, OE Guides & Payroll Authorization or Employee Election Forms 
    Accompany Producer or the Employee Benefits Manager on client visits or Open Enrollment Meetings, as needed 
    Follow the specific employee benefits renewal review process of the agency by providing all pertinent information to carrier for renewal business to obtain renewal terms and premium 

  • Proactively identify opportunities to educate clients, initiate inter-agency referrals, and offer enhanced or new coverage/account rounding recommendations to minimize client risk 

  • Handle all client requests (internal and external) in a timely, friendly, empathetic and professional manner 

  • Perform assigned responsibilities in accordance with the agency-established client service standards 

  • Build and maintain long-term client relationships to support the departmental retention goals 

  • Independently handle all routine client servicing without producer involvement 

  • Assist in claims processing and resolving billing discrepancies with carriers 

  • Obtain and present to clients’ additional coverage quotations as requested by client or identified  

  • Follow all agency processes and procedures, including but not limited to, Epic Workflows, client documentation, paper and electronic records retention guidelines, etc.  

  • Participate in educational programs to enhance knowledge and skills, and/or achieve or maintain professional designation(s) 

  • Be familiar with and follow agency E&O guidelines 

  • Perform all other duties or projects as assigned by management 

Qualifications & Education: 

  • Valid NJ Property/Casualty/Life/Health Licenses, as applicable 

  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred  

  • 1-4 years Employee Benefits Account Management experience 

  • Professional insurance designation(s) preferred 

  • Working knowledge of group benefits in multiple product lines (i.e., Medical, Dental, Life, AD&D, Disability) 

  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills 

  • Mathematic and reasoning skills, including practical problem-solving using fractions, percentages, ratios, proportions, diagrams, and schedules 

  • Strong organization & critical thinking analytic skills with  an attention to detail 

  • Excellent customer service mindset and skills 

  • Ability to complete work timely with flexibility to assist with urgent client needs 

  • Basic computer aptitude and skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook and Power Point) 

  • Experience with Applied Systems Epic 

  • Team player with a positive attitude
