About the Position 
Rue Insurance’s Commercial Insurance Department Manager is responsible for the leadership, development and supervision of the Commercial Insurance Team in the sales and service of potential and existing client policies. The Commercial Insurance Department Manager provides technical expertise in coordinating the inside service of new and existing clients through sales, account development, and problem solving in accordance with the agency’s objectives and procedures. They are accountable for building and maintaining strong internal relationships and working closely with the Management Team and Commercial Team to support client retention and new prospect opportunities for the purpose of improving and growing the business.  

Key Responsibilities  
Team Management, Mentoring and Development 

  • Lead and inspire a team of Commercial Account Managers by setting clear priorities, establishing structured work plans, and providing hands-on leadership and support 
  • Oversee all team activities related to the sale, processing, and servicing of commercial insurance accounts, ensuring quality, compliance, and consistency 
  • Recruit, train, mentor, and develop team members, supporting career growth through structured coaching, accountability, and performance management 
  • Establish, track, and evaluate individual and team goals; conduct meaningful performance reviews and monthly progress meetings 
  • Maintain efficient department operations that meet or exceed agency goals for sales growth, retention, and service excellence 
  • Foster a collaborative, sales-driven culture that promotes account rounding, cross-selling, and referral generation 
  • Partner with Commercial Account Managers to proactively monitor retention and implement strategies to meet or exceed agency targets 
  • Lead regular team meetings to share market updates, carrier changes, competitive insights, and client service best practices 
  • Conduct monthly renewal strategy meetings to ensure timely, accurate, and comprehensive renewal management 
  • Participate in prospect and client presentations to support new business development and strengthen client retention 
  • Support team members on client and prospect calls by providing training, scripting guidance, and strategic assistance 

Workflow Analysis, Development, Execution and Coordination 

  • Monitor and evaluate team activities to ensure service standards are consistently met and client needs are addressed accurately and within established timelines 
  • Generate and analyze monthly operational reports to track policy renewals, invoicing accuracy, open items, workload distribution, and backlog management 
  • Design, refine, and implement standardized workflows that drive efficiency, accountability, and consistency across the department 
  • Conduct routine quality assurance audits to ensure adherence to established procedures, evaluate work product quality, and identify continuous improvement opportunities 
  • Proactively recommend and implement process enhancements to improve client service delivery, optimize Epic workflows, strengthen system documentation, and improve records management practices 
  • Maintain comprehensive knowledge of agency Errors & Omissions (E&O) guidelines and ensure team processes minimize exposure and protect the organization from financial risk 

Problem Resolution 

  • Proactively identify, address and resolve client, insurer and internal service issues with urgency and empathy 
  • ​​​​​​​Analyze and resolve coverage questions or deficiencies identified during account servicing, recommending appropriate solutions to mitigate risk
  • Support the resolution of escalated claims and complex service matters, ensuring timely communication and satisfactory outcomes 

Client Relationship Building 

  • Build and maintain strong internal and external client relationships 
  • Serve as liaison between insurers and clients, both as a technical resource and service advocate 
  • Support the Rue Be Ready model by identifying operational and exposure-based risk improvement opportunities, recommending appropriate risk control strategies or coverage enhancements, and ensuring thorough follow-through to resolution 
  • Maintain up to date knowledge of marketplace carriers, products, underwriting trends, and coverage solutions to provide informed guidance and strategic recommendations 

Company 

  • Actively champion and support the company’s vision, strategic direction, and growth objectives 
  • Contribute meaningful insights and recommendations during strategic planning and leadership meetings 
  • Participate in management and monthly company meetings, ensuring alignment between team performance and organizational goals  
  • Partner with COO to attain profit and growth objectives 
  • Provide regular updates to the management team on departmental performance, key initiatives, and results 
  • Collaborate with agency leadership to drive revenue growth through account rounding initiatives and support the development and integration of new programs 
  • Pursue ongoing professional development to maintain advanced knowledge of exposures, coverage solutions, and industry trends, including the attainment of additional professional designations 
  • Serve as a subject matter expert by participating in and/or leading internal educational programs to strengthen organizational knowledge and performance

Work Schedule & Classification: Full-time, salaried (exempt) position   
Salary: $115,000 - $175,000 Annually +Bonus Opportunity based on Company and Individual Performance 

 Required Qualifications 

  • Valid Property, Casualty, Life, and Health Insurance Licenses 
  • 7 or more years of experience in commercial insurance account management with an agency or risk management department   
  • 3 or more years of experience as a people manager 
  • Advanced knowledge of agency management system functionality, workflow procedures, underwriting, and sales and service processes 
  • High level of professionalism, ethical, and visionary leadership skills 
  • Exceptional organizational, critical thinking, and analytical skills, with strong attention to detail and demonstrated ability to prioritize and operate strategically and effectively in a fast-paced environment with minimal instruction and a high degree of accuracy 
  • Ability to develop, plan, and implement short and long-range goals 
  • Ability to handle difficult behavior and conflict and bring to a timely resolution 
  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively within a team, communicate clearly, and contribute meaningful information and guidance that drives the achievement of organizational goals
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office  
  • Experience with agency management software  
  • Knowledge of insurance company rating systems 

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Bachelor’s Degree  
  • Experience with Applied Systems Epic 
  • Industry designation such as ARM, CIC, CPCU
